Aliso Viejo, CA/Chatham, NJ – Robert A. Boyd, Jr. 93 of Aliso Viejo, CA, formerly of Chatham, NJ died Sunday, July 8, 2012 peacefully at his home.
Born and raised in Orange, NJ, Bob was a longtime resident of Chatham, NJ before moving to Aliso Viejo, CA in 2004. He was a graduate of Hampden Sydney College in VA and Juniata College in PA. As Chairman of Manufacturers Reserve Supply (MRS), Irvington, NJ he represented the second generation of Boyd’s to manage the company established by his father in 1931. Bob was active in the lumber industry and in 1982, he was recognized for his contributions and was named Lumberman of the Year by the New Jersey Lumber Dealers Association. Bob was also on the Board of Directors of Investors Savings Bank for 28 years and the Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company for 16 years. Throughout his long career, in addition to managing a successful business, Bob Boyd contributed generously of his time to his industry, his community and his church. Bob was a Charter member of the Presbyterian Church in Chatham Township, NJ where he served on various committees.
Bob was an avid golfer and a proud member of Baltusrol Golf Club for 34 years and was previously on the Board of Governors. He won the Metropolitan Golf Association Net Team Championship in 1985 with his son Steve.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Marjorie, two loving sons, Robert III, Stephen, and his wife, Barbara, and two grandchildren, Brian and Nancy. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Boyd of Lancaster, PA.
